OYASUMI PUNPUN
I had heard of it a whole lot but never actually took the time to read it. I picked it up about a week ago and let me tell you that I do not regret it. I cant stress how enjoyable it is to read, it has its sad moments but they're worth it. Note that I'm currently on chapter 30 since I'm reading it at a slow pace, doing so because I refuse to reach the end any time soon.
Ill only talk about chapter one since I wanna keep this as spoiler free as possible.
Going in on the first chapter I was just blown away by the art, its not the style of art that I'm used to. I mean come on look at this page. It goes from simple to. . . well. . . that alien looking girl.
Punpun is just this small little ghost looking bird thing, its just something else. I was thrown off a bit because he never actually talks, anytime he says anything its either in a full black panel or in a square box. It was hard to take it seriously at first but it grew on me.
I was expecting this manga to just be comedy but it hit some dark notes on the first chapter that hit me like a bus at an intersection (Fukka reference). The dad fighting with the mom and then I guess. . . beating her up? Well I'm sure that's what happened but the dad seems to think it was the "robber" quote on quote.
Its so sad that we have to see him go through all this stuff and still keep on thinking everything is just fine. His enthusiasm to just keep chugging along in the following chapters is admirable, I wish I had that for me in real life. Don't get him wrong though thinking hes super nice and all because he has his darker thoughts to him as well. . .well mostly "God" does. Did I forget to mention the "God" in here?
Yes, there is a "God" that Punpun seems to summon with this little chant "Dear God, dear God, tinkle-tinkle hoy!". And BAM!! out of nowhere this Asian, glasses wearing, afro having man pops up out of nowhere.
He tends to try to give Punpun advice which I think is not the best at times. . . Like murdering his rival in later chapters (not much of a spoiler). I'm guessing "God" has good intentions for him but falls short on it.
Overall I just want to say that if you haven't picked this up for a read yet then you definitely should, because I jumped on this ship extremely late but I'm enjoying the ride and savoring it. At least put it on your TBR list for a later time. Don't forget that if you need some advice from "Afro God" then just say the magical jingle,"Dear God, dear God, tinkle-tinkle hoy!"
Well Ill end this here, thanks for sticking
with me on my first blog post.
Let me know what you thought
about Oyasumi Punpun.
Hope you have a Great Day/Night.
